Shoeless Walk

Did you know you can send a kid in Cambodia to School for a Year for only $13.25? As most of you know I love being barefoot. It is freeing to feel the ground beneath your feet and to just … Continue reading

San Francisco weekend

Ok well it was a weekend for me.

My sister and her friend Victoria decided to fly up to San Francisco for a few days to hangout. Victoria had never been to San Francisco so they planned to see it all. As I don’t live that far from SF I decided to drive down and spend a few days with them.

The Sunday we walked around a lot of tourists spots.

We took the BART to the city and walked from there.
The wharf and ferry building.

We walked to coit tower. And around the streets and houses. It was a beautiful day.

Monday we took BART to the city and decided to start in the mission district. Sera really wanted sightglass coffee and a specific bakery so those were our goals.

We walked all over mission district to a lot of coffee shops and even found a tea shop.

We also walked around the maritime museum and area.

Tuesday, I started the day with a run. I planned to run 6 miles but did not really know the area. I ended up running 9 beautiful miles.

I ran around bay farm island and it was beautiful.

After breakfast we drove into the city to the golden gate bridge.

It was a beautiful day. I have never seen it so clear in san Francisco. We walked the bridge and then headed in to Sausalito for lunch.

After lunch we drove golden gate park to find the windmill. I had never been to the windmill before. It was beautiful.

We then drove back to the city to go to the palace of fine arts.

Then we drove down Lombard street.

Wednesday we spent walking around alameda and just hanging out.

The whole trip was great. I enjoyed getting to see my sister and hangout in San Fran for the weekend.

It was exhausting but so worth the adventure.

I even got some hammock time!

New Year, New Plans

Ok one day very soon I promise to update my blog from Hawaii and other adventures! It has just been so crazy lately! I keep moving because I am house sitting and then my heater went out so I had to move again to have somewhere that was above 50 degrees to sleep in.

For now I wanted to say Happy New Year and write about plans for this year!

I was recently offered and accepted a ambassadorship with Ragnar Relay Napa Valley! I am so excited about this! I have been wanting to be an ambassador for something and since I already talk about and write about Ragnar all the time it feels perfect!! Ragnar is freaking AWESOME! If you haven’t already read my blogs on it you can check them out HERE and HERE. Oh and you can see my VIDEO! If you are a runner or want to be you should definitely run a Ragnar! We are putting teams together for Napa and Socal right now!

Which brings me to my next point: Race Schedule this year!

Last year I didn’t do very many local races and 5ks because I moved! (I mainly did virtual races) This year will be different! I plan to do a lot of 5k events and runs! Redding has a lot of local 5k and 10ks (almost ever week) so I am going to try and do atleast 1 a month.

I am also planning to do Ragnar Socal again and Ragnar Napa Valley again! (double medal again!!)

I want to get in atleast one half marathon hopefully redding and possibly another one! Last year I trained for the redding 3 bridges but was unable to do it because I helped with a birth the day before. This year (SO FAR) no one is due that weekend! YAY! I may even do a sprint triathalon this year?

My mantra or motivation this year for running is FOR! I plan to run every run for someone or something! I want to run FOR people that can’t, FOR people that don’t, FOR myself, FOR organizations, FOR things! I plan to run and pray for that person or thing every run! If you have something or yourself you want me to run for please comment and I will add it to the growing list!

This month has been focused on human trafficking. Running for the survivors, running for those still out there, running for the pimp and the jons, running for organizations that help fight it…

Vacation plans: So far I have no vacation plans. I plan to make a few trips to Southern California, San Fransisco area, and Sonoma but no real trips planned. I really want to do some kind of travel this year maybe an east coast trip or possibly even further? I don’t know yet. Any suggestions?

I guess that’s it for now! What are your plans this year?

Lassen Peak Hike

Since I moved here in April, I have wanted to hike Lassen Peak. Right now the peak hike is only open certain weekends because they are doing construction on the path. My friend Sam and I decided we were going to hike the peak the weekend in October that it was open.

Suddenly the weekend was upon us and we were finally able to hike the peak! We arrived around 10am so we would have time to hike the whole thing slowly and hangout after. The hike to the peak is only about 2.5 miles long and it goes from 8,000 ft elevation to 10,500 ft elevation. So in 2.5 miles you hike 2,500 ft up. We didn’t realize how steep that would be until we were hiking.

This hike was a lot harder than we thought it was going to be. The elevation made it really hard on our lungs and the steepness made it really hard on our legs. I love hiking with Sam because we can both complain and be real when we are exhausted and wanting to die.

Finally we made it to the peak. It was beautiful up there! We could see so far and there was snow at the top. We really enjoyed the hike and the reward of our packed lunches at the top.

After our beautiful hike, we did a small walk to lake. At the lake we hung our hammocks and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.

It was such a perfect day! I can’t wait for the next day we can get out and enjoy the Lord’s beauty!

Ashland and Picking Up Kiwi

For a long time I have wanted a hedgehog as a pet. I love hedgehogs! They are so cute! I finally committed to getting one and found a breeder in Oregon that had them available. For a few weeks I … Continue reading

Surprising my sister

My sister Sera is currently in Hungary. I am so jealous. I always want to be traveling.

Before she left she flew down to California for a week to spend time with my parents and to meet up with friends. What she didn’t know was that I bought a plane ticket down to Orange County so that I could surprise her and see her before she went to Europe. I only have 3 days off (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday), so I got off work early Saturday and drove down to San Francisco to catch an early morning flight to Orange County.

My flight was delayed out of San Francisco (like all of my united flights through SF) and I arrived a few hours later than planned. My mom thankfully was able to keep the surprise. When they pulled up to the curb and saw me she jumped out of the car and ran across the airport to me! It was like a movie where they run across the airport in an emotional embrace.

My cousins, sister, and I

We were so excited to be together and have some time to hang out. The three days passed so quickly it was crazy! She had already made plans for a lot of things but we were still able to have some time together. It was nice for to be able to take a few days and just hangout with my family. I got to see my aunt, uncle, and cousins, and my grandma. I was really excited to hangout with my dog as well.

I got to meet up with my very pregnant friend Ali too!

The trip was over so soon and Tuesday I had to head back to the airport for my flight back to San Francisco. Unfortunately it was delayed a few hours as well and I didn’t end up back in SF until almost midnight. Thankfully my friend Rockii was able to switch me shifts and I didn’t have to work the next day until 1115 so I got some sleep before my 4 hour drive back home.

My cute Doggie who I miss so much!

All in all it was a great time visiting and surprising my sister made the exhaustion worth it!

Another Move

Thanksgiving week I came to Spokane Washington to visit my sister. Circumstances changed and my two week trip turned into a few months. Over the last year and a half I have gotten used to living out of a suitcase and traveling a lot. I have learned that I love traveling and living in new places.

Tomorrow I move back to Southern California for a few weeks. While in Southern California, I am going to be spending time with my family and getting rid of more things I don’t need. April 12-20 I am going to North Carolina for a friend’s wedding.

After the wedding I will be moving up to Northern California. I have accepted a job working with youth in the Northern California area. I am really excited for this opportunity and excited to live somewhere new.

With constantly moving comes a lot of new things: New friends, new places to see, new running trails, new everything. Even though I have moved a lot in the last few years and gone new places, it still makes me nervous every time. I still have trouble packing (maybe one day I will master this), I still have trouble saying goodbye, and I am still not very good at making new friends. Even now as I pack to go back to California, I am forced to choose whether I check a second suitcase or ship a box with the things that won’t fit.

I know this is an amazing opportunity but it’s still hard to make changes. Through every move and change I love what happens. I love the new people and new experiences. I love exploring new places and seeing what happens. I know the Lord has amazing plans and I love following His steps.

I remember the first time I found out about lent. I had gone to a catholic kindergarten and have catholic friends but I don’t remember talking about lent in those contexts. The first time I remember hear about … Continue reading

Barefeet, Boots, and Running Shoes

For months I have been trying to decide on a name for my blog. I have gone through so many different names trying to pick the right one. I wanted something simple that would sum up my life/my writing. I wanted something unique and somewhat catchy. I have google searched “blog names” and “coming up with a blog name” and so many other things. I have texted my mom (thanks mom) a million different names to see what she thought. All to still have a hard time deciding.

I realized recently that I am never going to come up with the “PERFECT” name. I realized that whatever I name it will become the perfect name. It’s not about what you name it but what you make of that name. So I have finally settled on a name. I introduce you to (drumroll)….

Drum roll

Barefeet, Boots, and Running Shoes

I was playing around with the idea of this name and decided I like and it’s kind of stuck. It sums up my traveling, my running/activities, and my loves. Let’s be honest don’t all women have shoes that reprent them? High heels, wedges, vans, toms, sandals, rainbows, boots? These three things are what I live in.

Barefeet: I love to be barefoot you can read about some of my barefoot adventures on my New Zealand Blog here. I went the entire month of May last year barefoot. Sadly, because I live in the US I can’t walk around barefoot everywhere so I wear sandals but I would rather be barefoot! (sandals just didn’t have the same ring to it as barefeet)

Boots: I also love boots. Every fall I look for a great pair of boots that I can wear while it’s too cold to go barefoot. Plus they look really cute! Also when I am hiking, hiking boots are essential.

Running Shoes: In case you don’t already know I also love to run and do all sorts of active things. For this reason I am in running shoes all the time.

When I travel I always bring my sandals, a great pair of boots, and my running shoes. These three are my go to items that I couldn’t live without! They sum up my blog through my traveling, my running and activities, my love for the outdoors, my love for life, and my love for the Lord.

So there you have it! Over the next week I will be revamping my blog a bit and hopefully getting a banner picture done. I have also created a facebook page you can find HERE. (like my Page) There I will be posting more about my running and activities, as well as other random things that go with this blog!

What shoes sum up your life? Are you a high heels type person? Maybe an army boots person? Or a simple barefoot person like myself?

There is something about the cold and cloudy weather that is totally unmotivating. Winter always brings the clouds and makes me want to just stay in my PJs and watch movies all day. I want to eat soup and drink tea and never get off the couch or out of bed.

Last week I found myself lacking motivation in everything. I didn’t want to go out and run. I didn’t want to read my bible. I didn’t want to make food or take a shower. I really didn’t want to do anything. Do you find yourself feeling this way?
This week I have decided it’s a new day and a new week and I am going to seek motivation!

I am going to seek motivation by being thankful. I will thankful that I can read because there are people all over the world that cannot read, people that have never had the opportunity to learn. I will be thankful that I can run. There are people without legs, or with diseases and other problems that make them unable to run or even walk. I will be thankful for food and the ability to buy it and make it; there are people all over the world that would love the opportunity to eat what I can eat. I will be thankful that I have plenty of clothes to wear and that I can get out of bed. There are people that don’t have another change of clothes or a shower to wash in. I am going to do things for those that can’t and think and pray for them while I do it!

I am going to be motivated by thinking of the future. Sometimes all the motivation you need is thinking of the end result and the future! Will I regret it if I don’t do this today? Will I regret it if I don’t run today? Will I regret it if I don’t do anything today and waste my day? Will I regret it if I don’t read my Bible today? Most of the time the answer is yes I will regret it! I want to be better in the end and therefore I need to start today!

I will be motivated by knowing that I will feel better after. I always feel better when I get up take a shower and take care of myself. I always feel better after I workout or run. I always feel better after I have eaten healthy instead of crap. I always feel better after I have read in the morning! We know that it will improve our day and we will feel better after. Just remind yourself before and during.

I will be motivated by being accountable. Sometimes the best motivation is knowing that someone is going to check on you and knows when you are cheating! I love working out with other people or running other because I know that they will expect me to be there and I don’t want to disappoint them (sadly I don’t have these people right now). Find someone that you can be accountable to. Some that will ask you how your run went or what you did today. Have someone to talk to about what you are reading in your Bible. Find someone who you can be accountable to and keep yourself accountable. You can all keep me accountable! BTW I have been doing great on my writing challenge although it hasn’t been that long yet:)

What are you unmotivated to do? What are your tips for motivation?

What ever it is, Get up and get out and do it!!
